Minotaurs Commander WiP #2

The commander is coming along now, I haven't put all the details on him yet and I need to put some green stuff on him to cover some more gaps and sculpt minor parts on the stormbolter. The axe is looking at least OK now but its in need of some sculpting and green stuff to make it work.

I had some problems with the pose at first, I didn't know how he were to hold his weapons and I decided that the he was to be shooting his stormbolter instead of holding his axe with both hands because his arms would cover too much of the torso.

Here is some pictures on the progress, there is still some more details I would like to put on him, I havnt figure out how to make them work yet.

Minotaurs Commander wip

It's have been some time since I have posted something new upon this blog, I have a new job thats taking up allot of time. But today I have some energy left to put up another post and this time its about my Minotaurs Commander and I know its not the best choice to have the commander in a assault squad, but its  more appealing to have a heads on commander charging the enemy.

Its as you will see in the picture I have based my commander model on Sanguinary Guard becuse the models are awesome, I have been taking away the blood drops on the armour and other Blood Angel icons to make it less Blood Angel like.

The idea is to have a assault commander with storm bolter and a relic blade, I'm in the process to changing the axe head, putting some personal heraldry on one of the shoulder pads. I have put some Tomb king bits instead of some Space Marine cloth, I will also try to put more Tom Kings bits on this commander to make it less Blood Angel like and that is the big issue with using Sanguinary Guard model for another chapter.

Tau color scheme

I have yet to make up my mind about what colour scheme I should use for my Tau. I have painted two more possible colour scheme and beside the three different colour schemes I have painted I like the Vior'la sept colour scheme. But anyway this is the three different colour schemes I have painted so far:

So from the left I have the Urban theme, I like the idea about urban but it is a bit dull with grey and black.
In the middle I thought about not having any camo in mind but I wanted a colourful scheme, a bit anime I guess.
The last one is the on I have posted before, a swamp/jungle theme camo.

AoBR Dreadnought dressed in bronze for success

First dreadnought for my Minotaur's is now done, painted it at the latest version how I do my Minos, the thing I did differently is the weathered bronze look.  I have tried different way to make it look good by using mixed washes of blue and green and diluted turquoise down to a wash but non of these two ways were any good. The wash mix didn't show  as well I had hoped and the turquoise were to bright green as a wash. So I diluted turquoise down to a wash again but this time I added some green into it (turquoise 2:1 green) and I applied it two times on the dreadnought and I liked the result, I might even go back to my already painted Minotaur's and apply it to them.

Here some pics.

Tau Shas'ui with markerlight glove

Got a few minutes over to do some painting this week, so I got a Shas'ui with the markerlight glove conversion on it done.  The green stuff work on the glove could have been better but it will have to do now after I have painted it.

The colour scheme:

1) Base coated Chaos Black.
2) Nightmare Blue.
3) Highlight Nightmare Blue 1:1 Space Wolves Grey.
4) Highlight Space Wolves Grey on the most prominent parts.

1) Base coated Chaos Black.
2) Catchan Green.
3) Catchan Green 1:1 Camo Green.
4) Highlight Camo Green.
5)  Highlight Rotting Flesh on the most prominent parts.

WiP XV8 Sharkfin

In the previous post I showed you the base for a XV8 battlesuit, now I have started painting the battlesuit. So I had a plan how to paint it but when I now look at it wonder if I should change the colour scheme. The only thing I have painted for now is the legs, neck and son metallic  and the armour parts were to be painted nightmare blue (50/50 Chaos Black and Regal Blue) as the fire warriors armour. Hen I look at it now it do sent feel right at the moment so I got to stop painting it and start pondering about if I have made a right choice or not.

The battlesuit are gonna be a Sha´'el or a Shas'o so my thought was to make it stand out from the regular XV8 suits. The regular XV8's armour  will be painted with a mix of 50/5 Camo Green and Catachan green and the non armour parts are gonna be painted nightmare blue. But now I started to think that I should have painted it as a regular XV8 and just added some red parts to make it stand out from the crowd. Anyone having a thought about it drop me comment below.

Here some pics ho far I  have come on the painting before coming to a halt.

A jungle base for a XV8 Crisis Battlesuit

The Fire Warrior squad that I failed to complete in time for a comp over at the fallen princes blog got me tired of it, I havent that much left to do on them but it really dosn't appeal to me yet to get them done. So instead I have made a base fore one of my XV8 Crisis Battle Suits (Sharkfin), I want my XV8 suits to have a more decorative base then my fire warriors. The vegitation that is on the rock is made by green stuff got a bit flattend in the process in making this base, I wanted them to have a more rounded shape, the snake is also made from green stuff and I searched the for picures on bright colored snakes before painting it. The reed is made from straws from a toothbrush the red small fruits/flowers on the reed are just blobs that I accidently made when melting the straws together so I had to find some use for it. The rock is painted tree bark and the water is made of white glue that is painted and coated with a gloss varnish. There is room for improvement but it was fun to make and the only thing Im not happy with is the glow from the broken Necron torso in the water. I might add some static grass but there aint that much room on the base were it will look good, but that is for another day when I have painted Sharkfin.

Enjoy some pics.

Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought

In the new Forgeworld newsletter that came today they were showing the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought, its a different design then the ones we are used to nowadays. Here is the link to the page [LINK], head on over and check it out.

My thoughts about it is that I like it, the design of it makes look like a giant space marine. Its taller and sleeker then the standard dreadnought design, It will look good in my Minotaur force. I will look forward to droppoding this giant space marine into enemy lines, imagine when the drop pod opens up and this giant space marine comes out an wreaks havoc...I like it.

Tau markerlight glove

I was putting a squad together for the Fallen Princes Squad comp. and I wanted to make my Shas'ui (squad leader) to standout from he rest of the squad. So I made a markerlight glove for him, the material I used were:

1x Fire Warrior arm
1x Fire warrior rifle scope
1x XV25 Stealth Suit glove

1. Cut of the forearm from the Fire Warrior arm.

2. Cut off the forearm on the XV25 arm and the foremostpart of the box, its here the scope optic will be placed.

3.  Cut off the foremost part of the scope and the small round parts on each side of the scope.

4. The optic part goes on the front part on the rasied part on the glove and the small round parts goes on the sides of the box. I had to use greenstuff to fit in the optic part.

5. Next I pinned the markerlight glove on to the firewarrior arm and greenstuffed the space between the glove and arm.

I think I will add some cable between the glove and the backpack, other then that this is how I did the markerlight glove, enjoy.

Swamp bases

Well I'm in process of making some swamp bases and these bases are in general forest bases with some water effect  on them. I have already glued little toy soldiers on to the bases (bad old  habit) so if I'm gonna use water effect it will require some modification on the bases. The alternative to water effect is to use something that isn't clear and paint it as water surface and use some gloss varnish to make it look like water surface. The colour on the water can  be green blue or black, so  here you can always choose a colour that work best with the colour on your minis.

When it comes to swamps vegetation there is usually some high grass in it, you can have some tree roots breaking the surface in water and why not some swamp animals if you can fit on the base. The colours on the vegetation are green, yellow and brown, but you could use different colours if you want to make it have a more alien feel to it. I'm making these bases for my Tau army so I'm not really restricted to using 'real' swamp colours for the bases, I could go nuts with it really so long it looks good.

If I'm happy with the result I will post a "tutorial" on how I made them.

Got a new kid

As the title said I got a new kid last night, our second son was borned. It is all wounderfull and great and the only downside which is minor is that my hobby time will be reduced the coming weeks. So my goal to complete my squad for the TFP competiton will be a challange and I think I still can complete it in time.

TFP Contest update

I got some update for the comp over at The Fallen Princes, I haven't done that much yet but I have started painting at least. My plan is to divide the 12 man squad in to three groups for the painting so I don't get sloppy with the painting and I was thinking of doing the Devilfish after the squad is done, mainly for a single reason, I haven't decided on what camo pattern I will use.

But here is at least two Firewarriors, I have mostly have been painting the clothes and the armour is only primed.

TFP Competition

So The Fallen Princes have another painting compitition, this time the theme is SQUAD. I would have entered the compitition  with a space marine squad if I had one, but I dont so I have entered with a Firewarrior squad. The competition will end at 24th of july so I have some time to do this, the first step is almost done and it is the assembly.

So this is my squad, 12 Firewarriors and a Devilfish.

Wish me luck on step which include selecting a colour scheme.

Minotaurs Terminator

Its time for another Minotaurs update, I have been painting some terminators and I got one done so far. I have also read about how to make your own light tent and I will make one so hopefully the pics will get alot better, but heres my first terinator for the Minotaurs chapter:

I have also got my Minotaurs transfersheet from Forgeworld, but waiting for  some Vallejo Decal Medium to arrive. I got the tip from one of the guys at the local gamestore that it will look like the transfer is painted on. I will put transfers on all the painted marines I got painted as Minotaurs and take some group shots when the Vallejo Decal Medium  have arrived.

Marine Sergeant

Got a sergeant done for my Minotaurs force, I had started painting him as a Emperor's Spears's and I didn't bother to remove that paint before painting him as a Minotaur. So there is allot of layers on this guy but I'm pretty happy with the result. I did change how I painted the bronze armour, instead of layering dwarf bronze over brown I used tin bitz  and drybrushed bronzed over it. The result is a bit darker and not as shiny.

Second weathering on my Minotaurs

I had to try another way of weathering the bronze armor on my Minotaurs before I get started on more minis. I used 2 layers of wash over Dwarf Bronze on the armor and this time i used Hawk Turquoise 1:2 Thraka green and I added some water to the mix. After that I used watered down Devlan mud to bring down the brightness from the previous wash coat.

I realy dont know which one I like beter I might have to improve this version before making a final decision and here is a pic of my previvious version werer I used a 1:1 mix of Thraka green and Asuremen blue over dwarfbronze with a watered down Devlan Mud coat over it.

You can find more pics of this mini in previous posts.

Minotaurs Space Marine done

So here it is my first Minotaurs marine, pretty happy with the results, unfortunately the photos don't show the blue/green shading in the crevasses that I'm really satisfied with. The only thing I'm not happy with is the eyes but I always have problems with the eyes, but I'm getting better for every set eyes I do.

Here you go, one tactical Space marine from the Minotaur chapter:

WIP Space Marine from the Minotaurs chapter

Well Im working on a marine from the Minotaurs chapter, the model is almost finnished and the base are not even close. Im thinking of either going with the blue/grey color or a red onw, i have to think about that for a while. But here is a pic of it, enjoy.
